चौक
Six places, one street. Everyone is hearing the same second.
Six places, one street. Everyone is hearing the same second.
What this is
Chowk is a radio you stand in rather than browse. Six corners, each a real place with its own light and its own taste in music, all playing right now whether or not you are listening.
There is no play button on the square, because nothing here starts. It has been running since before you arrived, and it keeps running after you close the tab.
Why it exists
Every streaming service gives you your own private queue, tuned to you, heard by nobody else. That is a good product and a lonely one. The radio it replaced had one thing it could do that no algorithm can: everybody heard the same song at the same moment.
So this is built the old way on purpose. You do not pick what plays. You pick where you stand, and you take the room as it comes — the way you did at a barber’s chair or a bus window.
There is one radio standing in the square, and it is the exception that keeps the rule honest. The rooms are everyone’s; the radio is yours. Spin its dial and it pulls anything off the whole street, for you alone — and the six rooms carry on without you, playing to everybody else on the same second.
How it works
There is no server deciding what plays. Every visitor’s browser works out the same answer from the same clock, so two people on opposite sides of the world open the saloon and land in the same bar of the same song.
It is currently — in India, which is the time of day the square is lit for. Come back at midnight and the sky will have changed.
What is in it
The catalogue runs from the 1950s to last year — Kishore and Rafi on the road, the Kumar Sanu tape in the saloon, everything the wedding tent could physically fit through a speaker, and, in the lane, whatever the boombox is playing this week.
If you must have your own way, every room has a playlist you can search and a way to go off the air for a song. You will be visibly offline while you do it, and one tap brings you back to whatever the room reached without you.

Chowk hosts no audio. Every song plays through YouTube’s own embedded player, and each song’s credits page links to the exact video it comes from. All rights remain with the labels, composers and performers.
